Sow the Land
United States
Приєднався 11 жов 2014
After a battle with cancer In 2016 Jason and his family sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city to work for ourselves and work together as a family. After building a 1.5 acre property into an efficient homestead we are starting new on 14 acres. Converting an horse property into a pasture raised family farm of our dreams.
Four Things I am doing differently Raising Turkeys This Year

Wishing you the best of luck with these turkeys. God bless.
Dry weather solves many problems that wet days bring. How are your in-laws doing?
Awesome video. Glad to see your success with the turkeys. Looking forward to more videos on them.
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 Have a blessed week!💕💗💕
I’m worried about the wire spacing on the top half of that tractor. 😳
Thanks for the video!
Jason, how's your speech coming along on "PREPARING CHICKEN COOP" ??? PRAYING FOR SAFE AND FUN TRAVELING TO IOWA. 🙏 ❤❤Turkeys and chickens are happy. I'm looking forward to 53 FRIDAY SHOPTALK. Miss seeing Lorraines parents❤❤. SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Be careful putting chickens under trees. Flying predators have a perch to sit before flying down and scooping or killing the chickens.
Do turkeys need grit??? Kinda like trying to chew your steak with your dentures still in the glass on your nightstand! 😆🤣
yes, grit
I found that when I was raising them it was the heat that made the biggest difference. When they’re young, they get cold easily. I had a mama raise 14 of them last year they all survived.
I raise chocolate turkeys. They seem pretty tough in my experience.
is that dark chocolate?
Maybe your future sheep will do better in a barn.....they spook so easily. So sorry for your loss.
Awwwww, hugs and kisses are the best! 👏👏🥰
Using the drill to sink the netting poles is pure genius, you may have saved our whole netting situation!!!!!
The first year we grew birds we didn't really consider how much freezer space were going to need
nobody ever does 🤣
Jason, thanks for making me laugh!
my pleasure
Fertrell is excellent. It makes a difference on egg layers and I noticed a diifference in my flock of American Bresse.
I like the sounds turkeys make. Mostly soft and relaxing. I like your laying hens, new and old. They are so pretty.
❇️💞❇️👍
We use that nutra balancer for our pasture pigs too. Good stuff to help keep them all healthy and happy
Will the extra protein help the chickens get their feathers back. They seem to be lacking something
that is normal for that breed.
You will be amazed at difference with the nutribalancer from Fertrell. I use it on my birds, heritage Rhode island reds and crevecoeur. Glad to see better results for your turkeys!
thx for ur video, it was enjoyable
I have no idea why some of the homesteaders we watch have difficulty raising these type of turkeys, I find them quite easy, and not as fragile as the cornish cross chickens honestly.
good for you
Need to get some calcium spread out over your land that will soften your land up make sure you check your pH to know what type you need!
Justin Rhodes found another dead turkey so put them in the coop and closed it tight put goose outside of coop then fenced it very hot and the hawk had the nerve to fly down and sit by the coop trying to figure out how to get in but couldnt so flew away... that is one determined hawk hugssssss
We use Fertrell's Nutra-balancer and it is great. We use their beef balancer for our cattle too.
🐊 Alligator Clips
Good luck with the turkeys.
We too in southeast NC have a heat wave and no rain. Maybe tonight we might get a little rain!
So great to see turkey success. Scooners work well. The turkeys are enclosed and can roost at night while not crowded and are mobile. 🦃❤️
rainwater is different as well, thought about that?
Turkeys make the happiest sound. looks like you are going to have a good year with them, provide some grit now that they are on egress. Be Blessed
It’s definitely the hugs and kisses! Good changes.♥️👍😎
Good day.
Have a nice day
QUESTION: are you feeding the supplement to your layer hens also? Great to see the turkey's thriving, I love the sounds they make.
turkeys are a pain to grow, seems like every one says that, lets hope they stay healthy hugsss
We've had terrible survival rates from hatchery poults, but just had our first mother-hatched ones and they're at 100% so far 🙏🙏🙏
At least you are trying to help them, what else could you do. Good job!
Where do u get ur minerals for ur birds????
Hugs and kisses always does the trick 😂😂😂😂😂
Oh that is perfect, I will remember that!!
Definitely #4 is the key.
Oh, wow. I wish our low tonight was in the low 70s, lol. Ours is in the low 98's lol. North Central Texas btw lol
no bueno
😎 we are warm here in SoCal. But we are so happy to watch all you share. Scott
You rock!
Yep, from the central coast of California near Vandenberg Space Force Base!!
@@SowtheLand🇺🇸☀️y’all don’t overheat in this roasting ☀️summer 🔥 😮 💞🇺🇸💞
Yep, adrenaline makes yucky meat!!
14 hrs of cooking a half pig.?that’s too long a wait…hahaha..
Worth it! Over a year later and we are still talking about this day! The best ever
What about goats on the property. For meat and milk
Maybe it's mentioned lower in the comments, but I'm interested in the flower making process. Can we see your process and what you grind with? :)
Those plums make the best jam and syrup for pancakes ! Y'all are so lucky to have them.
Thank you Jason... you made my day! Blessings Kiddo!🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿💚🙏💕
Rabbits
Oh no! Maybe only try two at a time and keep them with your chickens, that way they can't run their heads through like with the larger netting size. Yes there legs could get tangled. Sheep find reasons to die, we had Icelandics, very hardy, and they still found ways to just die. This is why we stick to cows!! So sorry guys, you are our favorite UA-camr! Thanks for sharing your highs and lows 💜
